My family is moving to Nashville in the end of July. I heard some nasty things about east Nashville. Does Hermitage count? We found a Gables apartment complex that's affordale. Is Hermitage furthur from the ghetto areas? I will be attending Vanderbilt this fall and I am looking for both affordability and safety.

Hermitage is east of Nashville, not "East Nashville." Personally, I like Hermitage.

While Hermitage is in the eastern part of Nashville, it's not considered East Nashville. I would consider East Nashville everything bounded by the Cumberland River south of Inglewood. East Nashville is comprised of older, urban neighborhoods. Hermitage is more of a suburban community on the other side of Briley Parkway about 3 or 4 miles away. The two areas really have little in common.

Default Hermitage

There are many nice apartment complexes in Hermitage. And it is a nice area. It is close to Mount Juliet where there is lots of restaurants, shopping and movie theater. Hermitage is also very close to downtown Nashville.

my husband and i live in hermitage. we really like this area because everything we need is within driving distance. i work at vandy - the commute is about 20 minutes, give or take based on traffic. also, having the option to take lebanon pike is convenient for rush hour and/or extreme weather conditions.

Default Welcome to Nashville!

I live in Donelson (just west of Hermitage and closer to Nashville). As the other posters stated, Hermitage (and Donelson) are located east of Nashville, but not considered East Nashville. I have been in this area for 14 years and love it.

East Nashville is not all bad. Some areas are very up and coming and you will find very nice neighborhoods in East Nashville.

I think you will love Hermitage. It is a very safe area of Nashville and has Grocery Stores, a Hospital, Lowes, Home Depot, several restaurants and a Super Walmart, just to name a few stores, located in it.

And, Mt. Juliet's Providence Shopping Village, a few miles on I-40 to the east of Hermitage offers even more. My wife and I personally like the movie theatre (14 screens) the best.

You will also be close to Opry Mills, which is a large mall next to the Orpyland Hotel Complex. My wife and I personally like the movie theatre (20 screens and IMAX) the best.

Welcome to Nashville. Hope Hermitage is everything you are looking for.

My husband and I also live in Hermitage. We've been here about a month now and are quite happy with the area. It seems safe, convenient, and friendly. It's a good option.

Default Good choice

I've been here for two weeks now and love the Hermitage area because of everything that has been said already. Safety, convenience, and all the nearby shops, etc. Its a really good choice, at least I think so...
