I don't even need to present a case here...it should be obvious.

Maybe it's been long enough since his passing to honor him for his football legacy which is unimpeachable. He did so much to entrench and endear the Titans in this community and region. I still think there are still some lingering problems with his personal legacy that would make it problematic to some to name a street in his honor. Not only the manner of his death but some of the details that came out afterward. I personally don't have an issue with it, especially naming a section of S 1st or S 2nd St around the stadium. That seems like a great location to do so and there's a huge picture of him on the stadium if memory serves. But it would take a councilperson with some conviction to stand up against critics who'd lob the personal history grenades against him and maybe the McNair family to get involved.

Neutral about Steve McNair per se.

Nashville needs to get out of the annoying practice of renaming streets in the Central Business District in honor of citizens. Instead, the city should memorialize a person at prominent spots in town, such as plazas or corners/squares with a statue or memorial art.

Constant renaming streets, or worse, partial streets, costs a lot of businesses a lot of money to change stationery and other objects with addresses printed on them; not to mention the time involved to notify clients and advertise the change. Then of course, in this day with prevalent GPS use, apps don't all update such information at the same time. A street with 3-5 different names is also extremely confusing to visitors and new residents.

A memorial spot/plaza in a prominent location is actually preferred to showcase the person's place in local history. With 40 some odd Council Members, renaming streets is also a 'cheap' way for the Metro mob to signal faux favor to a constituent group. A few years ago, the Tennessean did a report that exposed over 95% of those street changes were never even requested by a citizen.

I don't think we have a Eddie George street. Too soon to have a Derrick Henry Boulevard. Maybe if this group of Titans wins Super Bowl someday.
