Any opinions on schools in Kingston Springs / Pegram v. Willliamson? (middle school, salary)

I'm currently looking at starting at Vanderbilt as a resident physician and am looking for a place to call home. We've looked through a lot of areas, and I'm drawn to the Pegram/Kingston Springs area. It's remote, yet accessible to Vandy and the West End with a short drive.

My one question revolves around the schools. I am just thoroughly impressed with Williamson County. They're doing a fabulous job. My difficulty lies in that on a resident's salary, I'm not quite there, yet--especially having just taken on two almost middle school age children. Well, perhaps, but it's more of a push.

Kingston Springs/Pegram do, however, score well on greatschools and are more affordable. They're much, much smaller, and it appears Harpeth High offers far fewer AP options. I'm not necessarily set in stone against that, as I did just fine in a very good small public high school.

*Does anyone have any impression of the schools there?
*Is there an innate push for kids to excel, or is there the all-too-common laissez-faire attitude/doing well in the classroom is for dorks?
*many after school opportunities?
*a nurturing environment?
*good parental involvement?

The schools in question are Harpeth Middle and Harpeth High for clarification.

Really? No one looks at Kingston Springs or Pegram at all??

I sometimes hear about Harpeth High because I live "next door" in Bellevue. From what I know, both it and Harpeth Middle are acceptable schools. Cheatham County is not as wealthy as Williamson County, so I would expect that the schools there might not have some of the "extras" that are offered in Williamson.
