Default The best town in Williamson County is?

I'm heading to Tn in mid-June and thought I wanted to be in Frankin/Brentwood. However, I am trhinking it might be too city for me, so I am researching Spring Hill and Nolensville.

I am also concerned that though the schools are rated "the best" in TN., that they seem to favor the smart and talented kids and tend to neglect the average student. The greatschools.com site reviews didn't seem to favor Brentwood/Franklin schools at all. "Snobby, uncaring, class size, discipline issue comments concern me. Rutherford County on the other hand rated better. So I guess test wise, Williamson wins hands down. But what about surrounding our kids with staff that really cares? Doesn't that matter too?

Now I am thinking Rutherford County is perhaps a little more relaxed and family oriented. I want what many others do - a SAFE town where you see families biking and walking daily, clean parks, schools w/caring staff and exc. ratings, and nice neighborhoods that show people care where they live.

I don't care to be around folks that choose to show off their status vs the capable, loving, down to earth, and family friendly living style, because a nice home filled w/love, beats one that just looks lovely any old day. Any suggestions? If there's a neat town close to the water that's even better.

Thanks!

If you're looking for something on the water, consider Hendersonville in Sumner County.

The city is spread out between 3 peninsulas of Old Hickory Lake and has an excellent city park system and lots of lakeside recreation.

It's very safe, clean, and has excellent schools. If you work in Nashville the commute is a bit faster than Franklin and much faster than Spring Hill/Nolensville.

I'm not sure how you've gotten this idea that Williamson County isn't a loving, caring place for your family. In reading your quotes above, it seems you've already made up your mind.

My kids aren't off the charts. We're an average family. We don't drive expensive cars or live in a mansion. We bike and hike with our kids, volunteer in their schools, and probably do a whole lot more things just like you do. I am grateful for the loving, caring staffs at their schools each year.

Maybe consider visiting towns and schools before forming any more judgments about them. I know moving your family is a big decision, and it's helpful to research online. Just be careful not to mistake online opinions and criticisms as fact.

Good luck, and I hope you find the best place for your family!

Are you MOVING to TN in June (in 3 weeks!) and you haven't yet decided where to live ?!?!? Were you planning to sleep at the homeless shelter until you figure out which school is more family friendly (what the heck does that means?) ?

Wow - a shelter? Are you serious? I have been traveling the states and overseas for years now and am looking to settle in TN. is all. I have the luxury of going there and traveling the state once again, so plan on taking advantage of that. However, I was surprised to see so many negative postings about the County (recently), that I very much came to like, thus my post of concern. I've been to TN. three times, and have stayed up to 2 months at a time and loved all of it (wouldn't move to Memphis though I loved it's lights, night life and sheer city beauty!).

I was just thinking things may have changed since my last visit, which was in the fall of '07 and it concerned me is all. I never really spent much time anywhere else, although I did visit Knoxville, Sevierville, Memphis, Nashville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg (beautiful!).

Btw, my quotes are not my opinion, but others expressions from posts that I have found about the schools. I am looking for some positive information here guys! Not trying to pre-judge. Thank you for the suggestions thus far, I do appreciate the input.

That was clear, but your comments supported them.

There is a wealth of information about what each area offers. Much of it can be found right here by searching each town. Once you narrow it down, post more questions here. You'll be amazed at how much posters will provide about a specific school, class, teacher, etc.

Again, good luck.

Wow I'm surprised to hear that people are saying that about Williamson county, Fairview and Spring Hill are blossoming into beatiful places to live and if I were you I wouldn't miss out on the chance to move there. We have customers with kids that love those areas and their age groups vary. Franklin is also great but Fairview and Spring Hill have a lot of new communities sprouting up and your family could grow with the community.
