I take my mid day walk at the local Audubon Sanctuary. One day I was lucky enough to have my camera handy when a grouse mama faked an injury to lure me, the predator, away from her nest.

I managed to scare the little gator back into the water this a.m. I came around a bend, didn't see him, he didn't see me until the last minute. He turned tail and went right into the lake as soon as we spied each other.
The snake in a firepit photo reminded me of the time I took a walk in the woods during a family picnic. I was a teenager. Came up to the edge of a creek and stood in some gray sand just looking around. Noticed my ankles were getting really warm, and finally realized I was standing in the middle of someone's nearly deceased campfire.
