U.S. 93 for better scenery IMHO. Stop at the town of Panaca and see the Million Dollar Courthouse, and the museum, and see this:
Cathedral Gorge State Park | Nevada State Parks
If you can squeeze in the time, take a side trip to Great Basin Nat'l Park near Ely. It is beautiful.

Oh, right. Sorry. I sometimes get those "P" names mixed up.
But if you got to Panaca looking for it, they'd set you straight, and the drive back to Pioche isn't that far.

Thank you for the replies. :-) I did take US 93, and it *was* beautiful. I stopped and saw the (exterior and entryway of the) Million Dollar Courthouse and also Boot Hill (fantastic!) in Pioche, and drove a mile or so into Cathedral Gorge (but not as far as the visitor center). It looked spectacular, but I will have to try to go back -- I had over 1100 miles to go that day.
