Default Air conditioning needed in Dayton?

My husband and I will be moving to Dayton in a few weeks from Las Vegas. We have noticed that air conditioning does not seem to be standard in a lot of homes, even newer ones. Coming from Las Vegas we just can't imagine not having air conditioning, but is it really necessary? Based on weather information it looks like Dayton is cooler in the summer than Carson City and Reno. Advice from anyone that lives there would be great!

I lived in Las Vegas for 30 years before moving to Dayton last November. Yes, you will need AC, but not very often. It will get into the 90's before summer is over. The difference is that it drops into the 50's at night.

Actually Dayton is a little warmer than Carson City with the difference being the altitude. Dayton - 4400'. Carson City -- 4700'
