Can you tell me where the beautiful turn of the century neighborhoods are in Dover?
West of Central Ave., especially around Summer, Hamilton, and Elm Streets are numerous homes built from the late 1800's to the 1910's.
Lively is definitely a relative term. What I was trying to get at was that there is a real downtown to Dover with businesses close together that one can park once and walk to quite a few of them, with a sprinkling of restaurants as well. Depending on how you look at it though, Dover could probably also be described as a "sleepy small town", especially compared with life somewhere like Portsmouth, or Boston.
Honestly, NH does not have any "happening" areas. I suppose Portsmouth would be the hippest place in terms of young artsy pockets of that town. Big time nightlife, etc. is not big in NH.
That is why many of us live here. Boston is where many go for a big night out.
As for the OP question, I put my two cents in for Hampstead. Excellent schools... maybe a bit farther than what you've heard about so far, but not 45 minutes far. It's near Plaistow which is a big commercial area comparatively speaking.
We just moved from San Diego and have been staying in Methuen with family. We just found close to our dream home in Hampstead and can't wait to get settled. Great home values here too...
Newton, NH is the perfect commuter location with reasonable property values, and minute to Brentwood.
