I am not against tax dollars going to supplement the cost of higher education as well but when the cost of attending a university is going up higher than inflation every year, I think it is time to take a hard look at how these dollars are being spent. Why are families spending a larger percentage of their income today to send their children to college than they did in prior generations? Not only are we in danger of only the very wealthy being able to afford higher education, but we are burdening tax payers with these ever increasing costs.
Families are spending relatively more on education because higher education costs have rising faster then inflation and the family income for 70+% of us has stagnated. The people that have made the economic gains are so wealthy they do not care what a college degree costs or if it is relevant to the employability of their children.
