I might accept an offer from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Would it be possible to live near there without a car (I don't have a license yet)? Is riding a bike to commute realistic there? Thanks.
Riding a bike everywhere would be tough in the winter, for sure. If you can find a place along the Advance Transit route, that would certainly help. The rental situation in the area is tight though, so it's not at all a guarantee you will be able to find that. Also make sure you map out bike/bus routes to the grocery store and other places you'll need frequent access to. What will you do when you need to leave the immediate area? Dartmouth Coach provides limited options. It would definitely be inconvenient to live in the Upper Valley without a car. Impossible? I guess not.
Thank you so much!
Do you have any recommendation on how should I look for an apartment/room? I am currently searching for Facebook groups for renting houses near the area but it's not efficient. Thanks!

The Dartmouth College website has a housing section.
Also try the Valley News (vnews.com). That's the online version of our local newspaper.
I used to work at Harvard Medical School (staff, no status to that!), and lived about 5 miles away. A woman faculty member, believe it or not, rode every day she went into the office. Used to see her regularly. I biked in good weather, but drove in bad/cold.
Ignore the naysayers about winter and snow. Little known fact is that towns in NH plow their roads promptly. Imagine that! You might also learn about fat tire winter bikes. Clothing is the easy part. We have stores here too, and they sell winter stuff.
I think DHMC has a housing office as well. They have/had some condos just down the road which I think were built to accommodate traveling nurses, etc. The problem is that there's not a lot within "easy" biking distance of DHMC. A Mexican restaurant and a pricey upscale grocery store. Biking into Hanover will get you more restaurants and pricey shops, access to Dartmouth's offerings and a good indie movie theater, and there's an AT shuttle from DHMC to Hanover also. The nearest supermarket is in Lebanon and maybe 3-4 miles away on roads that are not friendly to bicyclists and requires a bus change in Lebanon via AT. Uber & Lyft are not widely established yet although I think they will be in another 5 years or so. I personally wouldn't want to live here without a car. Also, what are your hobbies? Can you find those in the Upper Valley? While there are things to do here, they have to match up with your interests or you'll need a car to pursue them in your time off.
I'd add that Lebanon and the upper valley are pretty remote from any metropolitan area. Boston is at least 2 hours, Manchester over 1 hour. And that's by car.
Thank you all for your valued advice!
I guess I will give up biking and use public transportation instead. I am thinking I should rent a room near Dartmouth college and take blue route every day to commute. Because there might be more convenient to live? I tried Dartmouth housing for staff and there was an apartment (2 bedrooms). I just need to find a roommate to share with me. Still pending on joining the Facebook group for Dartmouth housing rent.
Aso I will try to get a driver's license. God, it's not easy because I don't how to drive and I don't know anyone there yet.
