Snowiest-yes coldest no. I remember a few winters ago while living in Penacook in January we hardly ever got above 10 degrees for the high. There were quite a few days that January that we never got out of single digits for highs. There were at least a few days when I went to start my car for work and it was 20 below. This had to be 4 or 5 years ago-anyone remember that?
While it has been really snowy this winter I don't really think we have been abnormally cold.
This is only our 2nd winter in NH - I think last winter was much colder up here, but we had much less snow. I seem to remember a lot of below 0 days up here last winter, this winter we've had some, but I don't think as many...of course that could be "selective memory", too
Snowfall has been extremely high for areas of NH, but winter temperatures have generally been slightly above the averages. Concord received nearly 9.00 inches of precipitation for the month of February and they now have a 41 inch snowcover. This very deep snowcover may occasionally occur in the Lake Effect areas, but is quite rare in south-central NH.
This year we are having lots and lots of snow. Temps are within the range of normal for the year but last year it truly was very cold. One of the coldest Februarys ever!
haven't had this much snow since 1966 - but this is what we used to consider a normal winter for snow - since 1980, we really haven't too much and a lot of the littler ski areas went under -
this year Tenney Mt. managed to reopen and the snow was a real boon for that area - Crotched Mt. has also reopened with night skiing and midnight madness - glad to see natural snow had come back - hate to keep shoveling the roof, but if that's what it takes, so be it! we call it the poor man's fertilizer....the gahhden loves it!

Yes it was 2004 the year we monved to New Hampshire....Carrie
Yeah, I remember the freezing 2003-2004 winter as well. School was cancelled once or twice simply due to the wind chill.
This year has been a bit warmer than average, but WMUR is reporting that this is our 6th snowiest winter on record... so far! Concord's gotten about 109" of snow this season, but the record is 122" from the winter of 1873-1874.
The only winter in our lifetime that got more snow was 1995-1996, with 113" of snow.

My niece just informed me that the town of Berlin has set a new record. They recieved 20" over the all time record of 122". My gosh 142" i can't even imagine that much snow in one year. I told her to send me some pictures of the roads by her home. If i get them, i'll post them. She said no need to go sliding down the mountains, they just go sliding down the snow banks.
I'm in agreement that this is no way the coldest winter, not even close. However, it definitely is the snowiest I can remember... Usually we get 4 or 5 good-size snowstorms, couple of blizzards maybe, and it's peace and quiet in between. This year however, it seems that every 3rd or 4th day there's another snowstorm, except for a couple of weeks in December or January where we got to rest a little
