The area around Moorestown... not sure of all the county names yet.
Thanks everyone!
Moorestown is in Bulrington County, but borders towns that are part of Camden County, primarily Maple Shade. I don't know all the individual laws, but something tells me Moorestown itself isn't going to allow chickens on residential property. However, John Runyan who lives down the road in Mt. Laurel has a few donkeys...or so I'm told.

but Runyan has that 20 acreage next to his house that listed as farm land. Yeah.. less than $200 in tax.
I believe in Mt. Laurel, you can have up to x amount of chicken fenced in your property but there is also some rule about having any structure for the livestock being so many feet away from property line. So your neighbor can basically call in and complain. This is what happened with my friend who lives in Maple Shade and decided to put a chicken coop in the backyard.

I think you're correct in the assessment that they tend to control it by placing restrictions on things like coops, that make it almost impossible to have one. Without a coop, it's hard to keep chickens.

Also property size. Most townships in that area only allow livestock on 5 or more acres.
* http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/ I didn't find any information about Moorestown Township on this site, but got some hits when I searched Mt. Laurel, Cherry Hill, Medford and a few other locations.
Being from South Jersey my whole life it's statements like this that oddly make me proud and laugh out loud at the same time. You wouldn't find anyone in the city asking about having a backyard chicken
Actually JC allows for chickens, eggs and bees to surpriseingly. Never though a city as dense would have laws that allow it. It's nothing new neither, the law has been around for decades now but nobody has known. Weird.

I was wondering. "...his tax bill last year was $57,000. On the other 15 acres, it was just $468 because he gets a break for registering it as farmland."

I realize that he does pay alot of property tax on his mansion but I was referring to the 20 acreage of land next to his property
