Anyone from NJ move to NC, and then move back? (Clifton: how much, new home)

Heard a caller on the radio who indicated he moved to NC to escape the high NJ taxes, and recently moved back beacuse of the devastation (not sure what he meant, and he did not elaborate)
Anyway, we are considering moving to NC, and are just wondering how many of you guys have moved to NC, only to move back, and what you didn't like, or found was worse in NC.
Funny, I JUST had this convo with a new friend who just moved back from NC to NJ. She said she came back b/c husband's job dried up (new home construction) & that this economy hit their area harder then here. She said she is so glad she is back. She said you don't realiz how much you miss the food, the atmosphere, NYC, proximity to the ocean (for her in Charlotte, it took 4 hrs) family etc. She said the people are very nice but she is so glad to be "home".
I'm moving back after 3 years in NC near Charlotte. I am moving back for the same reasons stated above and my youngest daughter who was 9 and now going on 12 disliked the schools so much. I happen to agree, unless you are from the south and have family there it is a culture shock. We will miss our house but looking foward to going "home."
I work with a guy who lived there (charlotte area) and moved back...he's younger but all I've got out of him was "it wasn't for me". I never asked him to elaborate.
I didn't move to NC, but to Eastern Tennessee three years ago for husband's business. I miss NJ so much. I don't care how much people say how great it is having a lower cost of living in the south and a slower pace.. I miss NJ! Good food, proximity to NYC and the beach... even talk radio. These things can't be replaced. So, now I come "home" every two months. It's a pain to keep going back and forth, but it's the only way I can keep everyone happy. Especially me!! Thank goodness for the LaQuinta Inn in Clifton.. cheap, clean and safe rooms. My home away from home.....

I will only move to Palm Beach County, Florida in the south with all due respect, I'm just not into the gun, pick-up truck, confederate flag culture and I would miss all the food and fun places I am offered in the north east. I love Palm Beach County, FL because northeastern retirees invented the place and have brought younger people down over the past decade making it a diverse place. The La Quinta Inn is not far from me, it looks very nice and its close to Rutts and Marios, so whats not to like? If you do move back, I would try to move to either Pompton Plains, Montville, or Lincoln Park since they have low property taxes compared to other areas.

Yup- because that's all you'll find in the south- nothin' but gun-totin' rednecks driving around in their pickups and waving their confederate flags. Kinda like NJ is nothing but a bunch of orange-skinned, fist-pumping derelicts like on Jersey Shore, right??
Neighbors moved back north for many reasons stated in OPs posts: poor schools, low salaries, heat and humidity, bugs, snakes, etc. They indicated the low cost on housing wasn't worth the tradeoffs on other things they gave up.

You make a good point. Its not all like that in the south, just certain areas. The people on Jersey shore are discustingly vile human beings. I was wrong, you are correct.
