DirecTV is a satellite TV Company. They don't do broadband internet. You will have to go through one of the conventional cable co's, Comcrap or VZW (FIOS). And here's the best part, Comcrap charges $62 a month for just the internet without a cable TV package.

You can order a dry line high speed DSL from Verizon for about $30 or $40 a month depending which speed you want, as long as you're whithin a few miles of the CO.

I have directTV. What I did was I cancelled my TV and PHONE service with Timewarner and only kept their cable internet. So I have TV with Direct, Internet with Time Warner, phone with Magic Jack. Very Very happy and richer!

I have triple play from verizon and that comes with phone, DirecTV (because fios is not available in my area) and DSL (again because no fios is available) You get a discount for bundling all 3. If you already have phone service from verizon it makes sense to call verizon and get triple play with DirecTV through verizon directly. You will get a discount on all 3 including the DirecTV and your bill will be paid directly to verizon. When fios comes available I'll switch my internet to that but may still keep DirecTV. DSL quality will depend on the condition of the phone lines in your area and fios is way better.

It is $30-$40/month for DSL alone. Unless you are getting the NFL Sunday ticket I would totally recommend FIOS over DirecTV if they have it in your area . I am a recent FIOS customer and a huge FIOS fan. It is the best TV watching experience I've had in many many years. No delay on menu or channel change, my Droid is my tv remote, and my bill for phone, TV and internet is 89.99 a month with no contract.

Internet is $45 for 7mb down (plenty fast ) MagicJack is $19/year (unlimited long distance). DirectTV is $45 per month (after first year goes to $90). If you are a sports fan, DirecTV is a must. I am watching 8 MLB games right now on one channel. Verizon does not have this. Dont do the bundle garbage. They want you to 'bundle' to suck you in on only their services. Break it up to what you want.

My only fear with DirecTV has been interference and drop outs, especially since I live in a windy coastal area. Maybe the modern dishes are better, though. Thoughts, anyone?

I only lost signal once due to a heavy rainstorm and that was for about 1 minute. I actually lost cable (hours) more times than DirecTV! DirecTV uses 'Slim' dishes. If you have an ubstructive view to the southern sky, you will get great signal. Actually, you can test your signal strength within direcTV settings. Mine usually is around 95%.
