I didn't want to post this in the picture thread because it was alot of pictures so i created a separate thread. This thread is just for my pictures , on Saturday i took over 150+ photos in DT / IB of Newark. Some improvements that i think should happen when the economy rebounds. More Cameras , no open surface parking lots , they need to demolish the abandoned buildings and replace them with parks or smaller buildings. If they can be renovated , then make them cheap lofts and apartments. Some of the side streets need more stores , i think Newark needs to push for a full scale Retail / mixed Downtown disrect. Board Street could use a Light Rail or Streetcar running on it. Wider sidewalks in some places near four corners. Overall i was impressed on how nice and friendly the city has become over the year, this was my first time alone in Newark. I felt very safe and i hope to do it again.

I'll do part 2 of Downtown later , & the Ironbound.

Wow very nice. I remember my father said he ate in a few restaurants downtown which he said made the ones in Manhattan look like garbage.

Is this the same Newark that you described as being so vibrant and full of people (unlike Jersey City) in the other thread? I ask because other than a few cops, I only see people in one photo.......

Looks nice but I agree it does look empty.

Round two of photos, and again, the only ones that have people are the ones of the crummy bargain stores on Broad Street and the train station pics. There's 1/2 a dozen pictures of Miitary Park, and even those are devoid of people- isn't a park supposed to be someplace for people to spend time and enjoy life?? In your original post you say they should demolish the abandoned buildings and build parks- why? The park downtown Newark already has isn't be used by anyone......

Not many people out & about for a vibrant city..and of course you felt safe in the area you were in...I don't see any pictures of the "hoods" in Newark

You people realize this was a Saturday right? Probably in the late morning. Anyone with any knowledge of this area knows it's dead on weekends compared to weekdays, especially at that time of day.

And why would there be pictures of the "hoods"? This is a downtown and Ironbound thread is it not? Sheez.

The point being that is why he felt safe..in two small sections of Newark. Those two neighborhoods do NOT represent Newark as a whole.

So he snapped photos with the same scenario of the ones he poked fun at in downtown Jersey City in the dead of winter.....lmao
