Hi I am wondering if anyone can give me informaton about areas to live in nj, I am a single mother w/ an infant grandson. My profession is education. I came cross plainsboro. Is this a good place to live? What about grocery stores, shopping areas, diversity, school district. I need some feedback on ths area please. I am not looking to purchase a home this year so I was wondering about the community and apartment development in this area.

Im actually looking to do the opposite. I have lived in NJ all of my life and hate it, its so expensive and now that I have a family of my own we are trying to high tail it south. I have been looking into charlotte. Plainsboro is nice, expensive though, if you dont mind the cost.
Well,if you want to live in an area similiar to Charlotte, and in an area with a North Carolina "feel" to it,I would check out South Jersey, more importantly...
Burlington County
Camden County
Mercer County
Gloucester County
Cumberland County
Salem County
Those areas are slightly higher where you are now.

what are your criteria, what you are looking for in terms of commute, job opportunities, housing expense, close to shopping, malls, beach, safety etc. there are numerous factors. Plainsboro is awesome you cannot go wrong no matter what your criteria is. It is expensive if you are planning to buy. For renting they have tons of apartment complex but are very small (700 sq ft), you can rent in east windsor or south brunswick for the same rent (1k - 1.2k) but bigger apartment. South brunswick is also very much convenient but school district is not as good as plainsboro but definitely better than "good enough".
But why anyone would want to come to NJ ? Its like someone from NJ relocating to Chicago or North Dakota (unless you are in oil industry)
I thank you all the positive and negative insight about nj. However, people have many reason for relocating. I am not a native of Charlotte, NC. I move here in 2009 from nyc. Anywhere you move or live is NOT going to have 100% of what your looking for. Yes, I gave it a shot I work as a educator, however, the pay sucks, we get paid once a month, and for the person who questioned why leave charlotte, well, I am going to tell you. " THERE ARE NO JOBS HERE IN THE SOUTH" HEALTH COVERAGE SUCKS, people without degree are only making min. wage, and some have to work two/three min. wage jobs to pay their mortgage. Yes, we have beautiful weather, but trust and believe "EVERYTHING" else sucks.... Soo many folks are complaining about the job market and relocating where the jobs are PAYING WITH GREAT BENEFITS. there are NO Unions, this a at will state " Employers can get rid of you for no reason. SO,if anyone is moving back here to Charlotte, YOU better do your homework. JOB first. I understand the apartments are more in nj and nyc, however, here in NC state You must pay taxes on YOUR VEHICLE once a year. There is taxes on everything, candy gum e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. I like charlotte but the job market, and taxes are horrible. I'm not only looking for employment in the field of education but in social work as well. tanks again for your insight....

It is useful to know that and you probably should have put that in your first post, because a native southerner moving from NC to NJ would experience quite a culture shock.

I don't think it was that necessary. Yes, there would be culture shock, but it wasn't necessary for OP to mention she was from these parts in order to get information about the towns she asked for...
