Just about everyone I know buys bottled water including myself. I even go as far as cooking with bottled water but over time, this can be expensive not to mention not good for the environment.

Too bad we don't trust the tap water here. Should we trust the water here more?

Yes.. All Public water systems meet Federal Safe Water Standards. Most Exceed the standards by alot.

If you don't like the taste of the water get a Brita Filter for your drinking water.

No, it is not safe to drink! Don’t do it. Several studies have proved that after drinking tap water in NJ, newcomers from other states/countries become impatient and aggressive, their driving skills deteriorates and they develop a potty mouth.

Well, maybe that's not due to the water. Never mind.

I've been drinking it for 46 yrs, and I'm still here to talk about it. 26 of those years were unfiltered!! Get a Brita, or a whole house filter (not that expensive) and you're fine.

City water is probably the safest water you can drink. Safer than bottled water.

Not sure why'd cook with bottle water. Even if it was "safer and cleaner" than tap water, any bacteria in it would get killed anyway by cooking.

Although, if you live in South Jersey like around Toms River, the tap water there is pretty gross.

Well, ALL municipal tap water has to meet far more stringent standards than bottled water does. What you shouldn't trust is bottled water, between the bottles themselves and the far, far lower standards for quality and testing of it.

So yes, there's no reason you should be concerned with the tap water, and there are many significant concerns with bottled water. If you're still concerned, get a filter for your tap water supply instead.

I think it's mostly due to the taste of the tap water that people seek out bottled water. If you have city water testing is required and you can obtain the results from the water company. People who live in towns that have had their municipal water supplies impacted by chemicals are obviously more sensitive about city water and I think that mindset spreads a bit to other towns. But overall, while bottled water tastes better, I wouldn't say it's any healthier than tap water. I live in Piscataway and just got a Brita filter for the tap. Tastes fine now.

The taste depends on the source. In North Jersey, I had artesian well water, and it was good. Down here, it comes from a reservoir. Ok but not as tasty.

But I don't use a Brita and I've been drinking nj water for 56 years. My mother is 85 and has lived in nj and drank the water all her life, too.

Tin foil hats for sale. Wow, you cook with bottled water, that's the first time I heard that. We're all going to die.
