I'm considering a move to the Gregory section of West Orange and work in NYC. I know there is a jitney, but it appears to only service the rush hours trains. I typically am in NYC until 8pm once a week. What is my option for getting home from the South Orange station at say, 9:30pm? Am I stuck taking a taxi or Uber?
Also, I read on older thread that the WO jitneys are unreliable with their timing. Is that still true?
Any other thoughts on commuting from this area would be greatly appreciated!
You can take the South Orange jitney almost to the West Orange border (for $2) if you live close enough to there. Once a week, I'd say take a car service from either Orange or South Orange.
May want to check bus times. At that time, they fly through the tunnel. Not sure how close you are to Port Authority, or how close you are to the bus stop.
I work long hours and actually alternate with the train and DeCamp bus 50/50. The GR jitney cuts off at like 730pm train arrival, which is really difficult to hit time wise. If working past 730 or 8,, I would walk to PA, take a 27 min bus, and walk home. My door to door is actually 20-25 min faster than if I were to take an earlier train to the jitney.
Come to think of it, even if they offered later jitney service I would still opt for the traffickless bus option...which may partially be a reason why these towns have less demand for later jitneys.
