My husband and I are moving to Tenafly NJ. Just wondering if there is a decent amount if diversity in the community. If not are people pretty open minded?

well this site, city-data.com has a page for each township or area that includes all the demographic data, taxes, statistics, etc
I don't think Tenafly has a big African American population, but it does have huge Asian and Jewish populations. This makes the town more diverse. I would think that all residents are accepted. After all, not just anybody can afford to live in Tenafly.
There are lots of African-Americans in Englewood and teaneck right next door
Englewood kids always come to the tenafly basketball courts downtown to play all the time
I do not want to offend anyone, but they will definitely accept you because they love diversity, and they think everything will be integrated and racial harmony will rule over the earth, and everything will be perfect, and they want to be at the forefront of such a movement
Not saying that way is wrong, but they are quite extreme about it.
You will like it there, they try to get everyone involved in the community, even if it means driving their ideals down your throat LOLZ just kidding (well not really)
Their teachers like to get involved in the student outside of school. That may be bad or good depending on the families
The downtown is walkable, and plenty of parking
It is also very close to NYC
If you can afford you have nothing to lose and lots to gain
what the others said...the town is primarily white (including lots of jewish people) and asian (mainly korean). schools are excellent and housing is very expensive. nice downtown and a very pleasant place to live in general.
is the town diverse? yes. it's just not diverse in the same way as hackensack, teaneck, and englewood, which have large african-american and latino populations. so it may not fit your definition of "diverse", but it does meet the general definition of the term.
fyi hackensack, teaneck, and englewood are the only three towns in bergen county that have really significant african-american populations. bergenfield also has a fair number, although the aa community is far smaller than the aforementioned towns. other than that, just about every town in bergen county has between 0.5 and 2% african-americans - meaning very few. tenafly falls into this category.
the biggest minority groups in bergen county in general are asians and latinos.
I grew up in Tenafly. I agree with the other posters before me. Tenafly has a HUGE population of Asians and still growing (causing the nickname "Teanfry"). There is also very Jewish, with rapidly growing population of Israelis (also giving Tenafly the nickname of "Little Israel").
School system is excellent. Always ranks in the top 5 in the state year after year.
i would think that african americans moving into a white town will be treated better than a white moving into an african american town. do blacks experience problems when moving somewhere that they are the strong minority?
