Recommend adding Rutherford and Lyndhurst into the mix. Focus on the "Ridge Road Corridor" from Rutherford down into Kearny (becomes Kearny Ave here). You have bus#76 going down Ridge Rd. toward NJIT (goes to Rutgers Newark). Plus you have the train to NYC at Rutherford and Kingsland (Lyndhurst on Ridge Rd).
