I drive Route 31 everday. The speed limit is 50 mph. Some parts are one lane and others two. I usually drive about 60 mph (obviously over the limit) and people ride my bumper and flash their high beams like idiots. In the area where passing is allowed, people whiz by doing at least 75 mph. Forget about how fast they go once it opens up to two lanes.

I understand that most of us go somewhat over the speed limit, but 80 mph in a 50 mph zone is absolutely ridiculous. Where are these people going that they are in such a hurry at 6:00 in the morning?

Where are they going? They are trying to get to work and no one likes a slowpoke despite you going over the artificially low limit and they passing you.

Based on how people want to drive suggests to the state that 31 (and many other roads) are long long overdue to make into a real road rather then the Horse and buggy trail they are. But if they widened it to what it should be they would probably raise your taxes another 20%.

Im not putting you down Calico but rather venting my frustrations with NJ and it's roads that are not sufficent to carry the load. Local municapalities will approve a new office building that will bring 3000 new cars onto a road that was designed to carry Horses with buggies and they wont make the developer improve the access roads to and fro.

The pigs can give tickets till kindom come but people will continue to drive as they please and may the donut munchers be damned.

While I agree that 50mph is too low for the speed limit, I also can't see driving Route 31 in some places over 60mph. I always see lots of deer, and they come out of nowhere. Add a little bit of rain, and there's no way you can stop in time to avoid them.

If ya ever hit a deer, it ain't fun.

This is exactly my point. The limit is 50, I usually do 60, anything over that is just unsafe for that particular road. Interstates are designed for people to travel at high speeds. The northern part of Route 31 in Warren County is a curvy one lane road, 80 mph is just insane. I'll also add that at least 3/4 of these high-beam flashing, speeders are from PA.

I agree- way too many people speed on Route 31 (and Route 29, for that matter). I cheer whenever I see someone pulled over. There are traffic lights, traffic circles, deer, curves, and stores lining the road. Slow down- life is too precious to be lost in a car crash.

Back when when I was younger, stronger and stupid, I'd slam my brakes on tailgaters and watch them fudge their pants when they had to put their own reactive reflexes to the test.

Let them flash, let them tailgate. If you're going over the speed limit, it's their problem, not yours. When the road widens to an additional lane, get to the right. That's all you can do.

My kids' bus stop is on 31, and sometimes people are going so fast they can't/don't even stop when the bus stops to let my kids on.

By the way Stevemorse, these are not truck driving hillbillies, they are much worse...... Lexus driving middle management

Long ago someone gave me some very good advice: don't ever let someone drive your car for you. Let them tailgate, let them flash their lights, let them be immature bitter idiots and throw hissy fits because they aren't getting their way for once in their spoiled lives. As long as you aren't playing road games and slowing down to **** them off, it's not your problem.
