Moving from UK (husband's job) and thinking of renting a condo in apartment block in Newport. I have a labrador retriever who is excellent to walk off the leash but pulls on it. There appears to be a very small dog run or to walk on leash along the waterfront path - is there anywhere nearby where we can walk off leash? In UK I border on to farmers fields and we walk miles each day. Also I have a house with a yard at the moment - am I being unrealistic in my expectations - any experiences from readers would be welcomed!

Just about every municipality in the US has leash laws. That means that your dog MUST be on a leash at all times, except in designated dog runs.

there are dog parks that you can walk unleashed. you can look them up online. some of them have trails you can hike with the dogs. but i'm not sure if they need to be leashed. we use to take our dog to south mountain reservation and let the dogs off leash but that was a few years ago and now i'd probably not let them. hope you find something!
