I've found that the water here is much cleaner than other parts of the country, including Florida. I water where I go on the Jersey Shore is clear to the bottom quite often.

Long Branch fees for 2008 were $5/day or $35/season for adults.
Children 17 and younger were free and Seniors 61 and over also free. Dont know what 2009 prices will be yet.
Seven Presidents is expensive. $7/day or $60/season plus parking of $6/day or $60/season. Children 11 and younger free. Teens discounted $42 and seniors 65+ pay $23 season.

When I go down to our shore house we go to AC beaches because its free. not paying for lbI beaches.

Bay Head and Mantoloking restrict parking rather than beach access. Yes, anyone can buy a badge and go to the beach, but there is (literally) no legal place to park throughout much of these two communities, and the legal parking that does exist is time-limited so a full day at the beach would not be possible.

I see the sleaziness in doing this, but it does keep the "riff raff" out.
Dan, no restrictions in Bay Head. No meters, no lots. Parking if you go early can be had 2 or 3 spots from the beach.

on the flip side.. there are quite a few parks in Jersey that you have to pay to get in to as well.... just a part of living in Jersey.

Same here. The only annoyance for me (as a local who buys a season badge for my town) is that I can't visit my friend who lives a town away on his/her beach without having to buy ANOTHER badge. In addition, many towns are illegally raising their badge prices to make money from their beaches when the law says they can charge only enough to cover their expenses as with any other municipal utility. I wish we could have a state or at least a county beach badge.
