A friend from a small town in the Midwest is going to drive to New York City and tour for 4 nights. He does not want to drive his car in Manhattan so he thought that he would just stay out in New Jersey and take a bus into Manhattan each day for touring. Someone told me that Secaucus NJ is the best place to stay in NJ if you wanted free parking and easy bus access to the Big Apple. They mentioned the Harmon Meadows area.

Are there better areas to stay in NJ for easy access into New York City? How about Fort Lee, or Engelwood, or Jersey City, or Hoboken? Where would you recommend my friend stay if he does not want to drive his car into Manhattan and instead wants to stay in a Hotel in New Jersey.

Secaucus is a good spot. It's easy to get from Manhattan from there and is a short bus ride. JC and Hoboken are close too but not too many hotels - and they would be more expensive than Secaucus.

Hoboken has the new W hotel. Probably more expensive than some of the hotels in Secaucus, but it's really nice. and Hoboken is a great town as well.

I'd recommend the Hyatt in Jersey City. Extremely simple to get into and out of the city, 24 hours a day, via PATH train.
