I don't think they are keeping it open. They have moved too many people and are already building facilities in APG. We just moved to De. last week with Brac. Most people are going to Md, but we chose De cause we are getting more for our money and schools were good.
There was talk of building homes, but since the fort was the major employer for upper-middle-class folks in the area, I'm not sure who would be buying them.
I think they should be some type of college campus there. It is a great area with a bowling alley, bank, stores, theater, ect. I just hope it does not go to waste like the Cecom building did.

That's the thing ,NSA is saying to many people gave up and chose to stay in NJ and to retrain while we are in this mess will cost way to much, the answer is to bring in those that stayed and keep the place going a little longer.
What about those that left? It would stink if now Ft. Monmouth stays open and we moved. We did not want to move, but did not have a choice. There are already so many people that moved and are on there way out still. At this point Fort Monmouth is closing, instead of hoping it will stay open we should worry about what will happen with the place once it closes.

Monmouth University is already 10 minutes away, and Brookdale CC is 10 minutes in the other direction. I don't think there's a demand for another college in the area.
Monmouth County wants Suneagles golf course. Oceanport want the east end off Oceanport Ave for high-end waterfront homes.
Tinton Falls wants to renovate/replace the empty Camp Wood townhomes.
The main base is still up in the air between Eatontown and Oceanport. Unkown for the commissary. First Atlantic may remain open since they changed from a military to a community charter.
Sun Eagles golf course went public recently I heard. Charles Wood doesn't have too many townhomes left, but I can see Tinton Falls having houses there. I am from TF though and just moved from therelast week, the last thing they need are more kids in their schools. I hope they keep the theater and bowling alley there. It is a great bowling clean bowling alley.
