Fast forward 5-7 years later and the upper class shows up and buys the house for twice the price while there neighbors payed half and more than likely are blue collar "lower class"/factory worker types. Most of the places I saw IN FL were all OLD establish towns where the rich and middle and poor class are mixed together. In texas the further our you went from the city the newer the towns are and better class the people are so I'm not sure if that is the griminess that leads to FL.

That's a really interesting point. I think you're probably right on.

Hi Giant,

I'm in a similar position as you, but moving in an opposite direction. I moved from NY (when I was a baby) to FL, and then to CA. Now, I am gearing up to move to NJ.

Having grown up in Florida (Orlando, college in Jacksonville), I know a little bit about the state. Florida was not/is not a place for me. Although, out of the areas I lived in Florida, I did enjoy Jacksonville quite a bit. I was drunk a lot though, so my memory could be skewed!

I think we all hit points in our lives when we are ready for a huge change - something completely out of the ordinary, and it motivates and drives you. I am not a huge Florida fan, but I am a huge fan in following your dreams and living life to the fullest extent. If you want beaches, boats, and fishing, then you may find great joy and happiness in Florida. You may not. You are young and have no major responsibility to anyone but yourself, so my vote is to just to go for it! If it doesn't work out for you, then you can always leave, and you will never have that tug of regret for not trying it.

If you have any specific questions related to Florida, please feel free to send me a direct message.

I spent 12 years in Tampa Bay and only came back for business reasons.

- Go down there with some money
- match your job to the area--Lots of work for accounting driods and other biz types because of retirement dollars; techies not so good, better off in Jersey; AC contractors and hospitality jobs excellent; if you have no skill your SOL anywhere you go
- Can't afford Jersey girls, well, expect a vast improvement
- Great place to start a career if Jersey shuts you out
- Don't expect the highest rate of pay, prices not cheaper and you make less
- If you can start your own business, something touristy; do consulting work
- Takes awhile to warm up, but you will
- Property tax low
- You have to go where you belong, if you hate it there you don't belong there
