50K in Central Southern NJ
I was just wondering what a good salary would be for someone who is educated and has a few years of experience in business. I don't want to get into specifics, but maybe you can post some ranges and locations if you have ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, you're going to need to give details... "business" is a pretty broad range... you could be retail management for all we know or you could be a site manager, a division manager, or God knows how many other things. I would suggest using sites like Payscale.com or Salary.com if you're uncomfortable sharing details. They can at least give you an idea of salaries in an area based on job description, title, education, and years experience.
Btw, $50k in NJ isn't much at all... my wife has made more than that as an administrative assistant. If you're educated and being paid for it, you're probably want to be in the $70 - 80k range at a minimum... that would theoretically allow you to buy a condo/townhouse on 1 income.

That's what I was thinking. I don't want to say too much, but I was offered a job @ $50k. I was excited at first, and really like the job, but as far as planning on paying expenses for 1, it doesn't seem to go very far.
Lets say the job is in mid-level management. Also, rent seems to be about $1200+ for a decent place.

Depends on the field- $50k for "management" in retail is big bucks, but in other fields it's peanuts.

I have to agree without at least giving us the general industry there is no way to know if this is good for your field or not BUT we can tell you about how far $50K will go (after all your land lord doesn't care if your in finance or retail as long you pay him)
$50K in NJ, in most of the NE for that matter isn't squat. It's even less if your living alone. Sure you can get a smaller place than a couple would need but no one is going half with you on rent/electric/heat/cable either.
I make more than that and I have no college education, I'm only in my mid twenties and I am by no means living large.
Are you relocating from somewhere? I know in many other parts of the country $50K is good money, sadly it doesn't go very far here.

Yes, I would be relocating from a place where $27k or so here has the same buying power as about $50k in NJ. I don't want to say too much in case the employer looks around and sees this but it's actually a software company.

A few years experience? I'd say 50 is probably fair. If you're in South Jersey 1200 sounds high for rent though. Central Jersey and north can be that high but you should be able to go cheaper in SJ.

With unemployment rising, salary offers are dropping. Why pay big bucks when you have 78-80 people applying to basic positions?
Friend recruits for basic health care positions. Couple of years ago they were lucky to get high school grads applying. Now they have their pick pf people with 4 year degrees.
50k is doable in NJ for one person, especially if you are not in the immediate NY circle or commuting area. Think about the prospects of the job too. Also if you are career oriented, this area may offer you better opportunities for advancement. Look into everything, not just pay.
