The author of this article believe that the Superdome is the most historically significant sporting venue in the United States over the last thirty years.

As Superdome goes, so does New Orleans - College Basketball - Rivals.com

I think there is a pretty good case that it is when you think of all Super Bowls, Final Fours, BCS Championship Games, Sugar Bowls, Saints games, boxing matches, and other events.

What else is even in the competition?

The Rose Bowl deserves consideration b/c of all the Superbowls and Rose Bowls (although it hasn't had a Superbowl in a long time).

The Orange Bowl hosted lots of Superbowls and Orange bowls, but it has been torn down.

Old Yankee Stadium was the House that Ruth Built and home to lots of World Series, but it has been torn down also.

Yes, you could easily make this arguement. Is there another stadium that is better situated relative to hotels, entertainment, and historic sights? And we are not talking publics trans....we are talking WALKING distance. Combined with good weather all year round...that is huge.

What is really unique is that for a major sports event, basically the entire downtown area takes on the identity of that event.

Never been to Louisiana nor am i planning because of the hurricanes. But from the pics and videos i've seen the Superdome looks indeed great. Some criticize the exterior of being ugly tho. Me personally thinks its unique. What is the relation between locals and the Superdome? How do you view it? Would you like it to be demolished and replaced with some other sort of other amenity? I hope not.

First of all, we don't have hurricanes every year. Even when we do, we more often than not stay put, watch the bad weather, grill, and after its over we go and look at the damage for a few minutes. Katrina was a once in a lifetime event. It's like saying I don't want to visit New York in the winter because of the blizzards.

Everyone in Louisiana loves the Superdome, including fans in Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama. No one wants to see it torn down, I've never heard of anyone here saying that. It's one of the best venues in the world due to it's location in the city.

Merci monsieur. You're right about the hurricanes. It's not a valid reason for skipping a visit to New Orleans and the Superdome.

Locals love the Superdome. It's been newly renovated and doesn't need to be replaced. It's incredibly well-designed and can be redone again and again without becoming obsolete.

Britney Spears is from Louisiana. I guess most of you like her very much. Has she ever performed to a sold out crowd at the Superdome?
