restaurant in New Orleans?

Taking my husband for a long weekend in August [I know...the weather will be brutal, but that's when his birthday is...can't change that ]

Money is no object...just looking for amazing food and atmosphere. Neighborhood doesn't matter much, either.

Thanks!

I would recommend Commander's Palace or Delmonico's, both need reservations way ahead of time.

The Columns would be a great place for a pre or post dinner drink if wherever you're going to eat is around there - nice atmosphere, good drinks. I can't recommend the food though. Good for a pricey snack but not for an amazing dinner.

I agree with Delmonico and Commanders but here are some others I like:

NOLA - this is also an Emeril's place. People say it's hit or miss but this is where my husband and I go every year for our wedding anniversary and we've never had a bad experience.

Whenever I take my wife out for a special occasion I always book a reservation @ Commander's Place. The secret to having a great time @ Commander's is knowing which room and table number you would like to sit @. I always call a week or 2 in advance and book the Garden Room table 30 ( I use to work there as a waiter). The Garden Room is the upstairs dining room that overlooks the main garden and patio area. You have to make sure you ask for specific table numbers because the 34,44,54's area located next to the doors, aisles and server stations. Don't forget to mention the occansion when you make your reservation because they will bring out special treats throughout the evening.
IMO Emerils, Dickie Brennan's, Brennan's are just place to eat. Commander's is a place to record a memory.

I have the perfect place for a night cap.
Once you finish your dinner @ Commander's Palace ( you have to order 1 bread pudding soufle and a bannans foster) take a cab to the Westin Hotel (formerly the Wyndham) above Canal Place (this is the shopping center with Saks 5th Ave.) The hotel lobby is located on the 11th floor. You can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the French Quarter and the Mississippi River in a relaxing laid back setting. The Westin latest remodel moved the Green Bar to the river side of the hotel. It's a breathtaking view.

Good luck with trying to find the perfect place for your special occasion. We are happy you picked our New Orleans to record this special moment.

Thanks so much for the tips! Even with the Internet, it's sometimes hard to plan a trip from a distance. We're coming from NYC, so a breathtaking view of New Orleans and the Mississippi at night will be an awesome change of pace.

Will definitely do Commander's Palace, since it's (nearly) unanimous.
