Hey y’all! So maybe I’m alone! But I had my sights on particular Affordable Housing buildings throughout the years! And never got selected. This time around, I had faith… I just knew I was going to get a low log # and/or CB preference! But no luck! Now, I’m stuck with smallest studio apartment ever and it’s at the top of my budget. I accepted it, because prices are going up, so I had to suck it up!

How do you deal with the disappointment?
Be appreciative that u have a roof over your head and keep applying to other hc apartments
this just exposes all the fraud and biases within the lottery system (agents) , i am told having a voucher my "income doesn't matter" but i get denied for my "income" not being enough, with a low log i am skipped cos my "income" when my voucher covers it.

Am not seeing a problem here...
You may not have gotten your first choice, but you did get something, that is more than many others playing "affordable" housing lottery can say.
It's like saying one's dream is to hit Power Ball for $10 million but "lost" first prize and only received a lower amount of $5 million.
I see it as a break up. You are grieving a loss of the future you once envisioned, but one that may never would/could have happened. The best piece of advice I’ve received for a break up is: remind yourself that you still have a future. It’s hard to let those old aspirations go, but be encouraged by the fact that new hopes and dreams will eventually replace your old ones. It’s a process of acceptance! And we are never “stuck” forever. We have choices, even if that is just changing our mindset if we can’t change our circumstance.

Stop living in pretend world and live in reality. Just like with a relationship, you break up for a reason. Stop the fantasy of what may be and except the reality. Same as with the apartment, you want your dream fantasy apartment? Then go out there and get it. Why settle for a lottery apartment? Go change your life so you can afford any apartment you want!

What???? this is a housing lottery forum and people are applying for affordable units. Not everyone can afford a market rate unit .
Some of the comments are harsh. I understand what mean, but there's always the hope that maybe you can transfer to a better unit in your building or maybe one day your income will allow you to have the home of your dreams. Keep working hard and enjoy that you've been able to land, although a small apartment, one many would dream to have. I had an awesome apartment, but my building sucked and so did my neighborhood. My new neighborhood and building is awesome, but i traded a large apartment for a smaller one. I no longer feel embarrassed to have people visit me.
Best of luck and hang in there!
