HPD Approval but have to wait for lower log numbers (school, to move)

i was reached for a Housing connect finally! and Hpd approved me, however my marketing agent said they have to reach lower log numbers before they can move forward with me. has this happened to anyone else? i really want to move into that building and i am scared their wont be any units left by the time they reach me

Yes. This can be typical. The lower log#s might have been contacted the same day as you. But even if that is true they might have been slower in returning paperwork. Also, they might have a more complex household for paperwork that would require more time to be evaluated, and so on.

It does not matter if your got approved first because this is not a race.

Just because there are log# lower than yours does not mean they will be approved. If they are approved it does not mean they will take a unit that is offered to them. There are lots of reasons people turn down units, too small, too much rent, too far from school, too far from work, and so on.

I’m sorry, I thought once HPD approves you the unit is yours? The marketing agents send your package to be approved by HPD, but then still give it away?

Yea it’s possible they only send it to have it as back up if the lower log numbers don’t qualify or if they back down from it

Yes. Getting approved first or earlier does not necessarily mean that there is not a lower log# ahead of yours that is still in the pipeline. But, then again, if your log# might be BOTH the first log# approved AND the lowest log# you are golden. If BOTH those things are true then you get an offer to accept or decline a unit. With luck it will be a unit that you want.

That was my experience as well. I had a specific unit assigned to me on the HPD application. They showed me another one by mistake. I asked to see the one assigned and liked the wrong one much better. I asked for the wrong one and they gave it to me. But, I def would have taken the assigned unit if it was that or nothing. It's a totally fluid process.
