When did all of these front store slaughterhouses start opening up in the city? What person or family in the city needs a fresh killed cow? Took a bus on Third ave. in the Bronx last weekend and actually saw the calves gathered for the slaughter. I have also seen these stores in Queens. I'm sure these stores are marketed for the newer ethnic groups of the city. Are they safe and healthy? It seems like having so many live farm animals in the city could cause a health threat. Why did the city start becoming lax on zoning for this industry? Anyone with any info on these places.
Honestly, I'm more shocked by all the cemeteries I see just lying right there in the middle of residential areas/cities instead of up on a nice quiet (removed from daily site) hill. Seriously, walking past a cemetery every day on the way to the metro station can't be good for a person's psyche. And building a strip mall right across the street from one (as seen in Queens) is just kind of f'ed up in my opinion.
I get that so why build houses and shopping malls around them? It seems disrespectful to me. Just the opinion of an out of towner but if anyone even thought of building homes/shopping malls right across the street from cemeteries back home there's be an outcry. At least build a nice wall or something.

LOL, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion, but that's one I've never heard before. It's never occurred to me to wonder about what's next to or across the street from a cemetery or be concerned that I have to walk past one. At least the inhabitants will never complain.
I once read an interview with a realtor about selling houses that are adjacent to cemeteries. She said she just doesn't mention the cemetery and waits for the buyer's reaction when they get to the property. They either love it or they hate. (I am one who would love to live next to a cemetery. I enjoy walking through them and reading the headstones in the old ones.)
Re the OP--the slaughterhouses--I wonder if they are halal slaughterhouses? Muslims who follow their dietary laws have to eat meat that is killed in a certain manner with a blessing said. I know one such slaughterhouse is out in Pequannock, NJ.
