I'm new to this site and find this forum quite helpful on many issues. My wife and I are looking to move preferably to the whitestone area or flushing, but i'm finding those neighborhoods aren't as diverse as I'd like them to be. with that said I still wouldn't have a problem moving there but I'd like to do more research on the entire boro. I know for sure I want no parts of far rockaway and South Jamaica. I've lived in the south bronx most of my life and I don't want to make a backward move. Currently living in the hell whole known as CO-Op City! Please help!! Thanks
Co-op city is not anywhere near a hell hole..that is actually a very safe, stable, clean, green, well maintained, and affordable community. If you think Co-op city is a hell hole, and that's your budget, then you should altogether move out of NYC because you really won't do any better for what you pay/what you get.

What type of diversity are you looking for? Flushing has many Chinese and Korean people. Whitestone is still mainly Italian. We are moving back to Queens in a few weeks, Ridgewood, to be exact. Many Italian, Hispanic, and Polish people there.
I live in whitestone and I am Italian
Some Diverse areas are; Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Astoria, Forest hills, Also Bayside which is right next to Flushing & Whitestone

Unless you live there you can't tell me anything about what it IS currently. Without getting personal, its not a good place for my family at all! Because of the fact that I've lived that for 10yrs, it's allowed me to afford the possibility of moving. Well maintained for who? Are you serious!
I have many friends who have lived in co-op city for literally decades, and I am there all the time as a result. It IS currently well maintained as RiveryBay is spending a phenomenal amount of money on new windows, balcony doors, new balconies, garages have been repaired, etc. The apts are maintained well also, as are the grounds and facilities.
It is actually a good choice for a family because it is so affordable and there are many configurations to suit any family. And yes I am quite serious.
