There is a very elderly couple that has lived in nycha for 40 years paying rent on time every month. I have no doubt they will not get any special treatment just b/c of being elderly and responsible. They can't request to be moved to a senior housing unfortunately because they are caring for disabled children living in the home(who are adults but not senior). At least, I'm pretty sure the policy dictates they would not qualify.

I'm going to help them request a transfer even though I don't have any high hopes and fully expect them to wait forever if they ever get called for an interview (But i have to at least try, they live in a very bad area in ENY) .

The reason I want them to move is to be in a MUCH safer housing project in queens. (I know everyone wants the same thing) and they would be closer to me. (10 minutes by car as opposed to 30)

I know medical conditions would get priority but thankfully they do not have any. I just don't know what to put down as a reason for transfer since they seem so strict on this. Any ideas on what I can put in my letter that would make them at least look at it? Should I stress that I want them closer to me for childcare which is true but certainly not the main reason, Or stress that they don't feel safe there which is the main purpose? (I've heard only one reason should be given and I'm not sure any of them matter when compared to other priority reasons)

Anyway, thanks for reading, any suggestions or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Many projects cater to SENIOR AND/OR DISABLED so they may stand in pretty good stead for an "upgrade" although waiting times for the nicer places might be long indeed.
