Hello evryone

My name is Aldarion im 22 yrs old and live in Oslo, Norway.
Im planning on moving to NY and live a couple of years(Maybe forever) and have some (many) questions.

1.What is the average rent prize on a appartment in NY.(about 40-50Squaremeters). is Queens close to manhattan. sounds like a nice place there.
(I pay about 1200$ in Oslo.

2.How much to buy an appartment in same size.(Costs about US700.000-800.000$ in Oslo)

3. And if i want to buy can i get a loan in US or do i have to take up a loan in Norway.

4. How is the job market in NY? is it easy to get jobs there as a chef or cook (i am an educated cook).

5.Whats the average salary per. month. i earn about 3500$ (20$ per hour)

6. Were do i apply for an work permit. (US embassy?)

7. How much does it cost too live in NY (food, taxi, subway, electrisity, etc.) in average a month.

8. How about taxes

and lots of other questions.......

plz just give me whatever info you have, that you think i should know about because i know pretty much nothing.

Thank you......

Aldarion
P.S
And also, im sorry for my bad writing. talk much better then i write.

Do you have any kind of chef training?

NYC is an excellent job market for this, but very competitive also.

But if you have the right pedigree, and a thick skin you can do very well in NYC as a chef.

With your experience and your euro pedigree, I doubt you will have trouble finding a good job. Good luck!

Default more info

Hey Aldarion- Queens is a nice place to live, I'd recommend Astoria. It's a 15-minute train ride to manhattan, and rent is still affordable there. If you get a roommate, you might find a room for less than $700.

Check newyork.craigslist.org for apartments. If you have a culinary degree, you can get a job here as a head chef pretty easily, but some places don't pay a lot. It's easier to get jobs with big corporations, like Aramark or Sodexho, or Compass Group. And those usually pay better, but give you a lot of hours per week. For a head chef, those companies usually pay $55,000/year.

A work permit may be hard to get, but again, the bigger companies will be more helpful with that. Whatever company hires you will be able to tell you how to get one.

As for the loan to buy a home, I'm not sure. I'd assume you could take out a loan here, but you should ask your bank in Oslo about that.
