I used to have a studio in Sheepshead Bay that was 18x12.

I think of a "typical" studio as being 400 square feet.

I believe all new construction studios should be 400sq ft+, but older ones can be anywhere in size. Currently living in 275 sq ft and I can't wait to get out. 1 year is ok in such a small space but the lack of space quickly becomes an annoyance. On a good note, cleaning won't take long at all.

My last apt was a studio and was about 350 sq feet. I lived there for 3 years. It wasn't bad with a lofted bed and two large closets...were it not for the closets I would have gone crazy.

I had one that was 440 square feet in Manhattan but it was crazy expensive. A realtor would have called it a junior one bedroom, but with no wall separating the bedroom from the other room, it's just a funny shaped studio. You might want to look into something that size.
