Tonight, I tried Halal Guys at the corner of MOMA. It's good and very affordable. $6 for a mix chicken and lamb over rice. It's tasty. And the guys running the cart were informative and friendly. OK, basically, it's just the equivalent of the other places in Queens. But at least you don't have to go to Queens. So, I would heartily recommend it, and I would go back!!! Salaam aleikum, halal guys! I've added you to Mei Li Wah (best roast pork buns in the city) on my list.
Somebody has a good website that's specifically devoted to lunch - you should track him down. Tons of places over on Ninth. Bocca seems to be pretty good for standard fare. Maybe Rafiqi for a stand.
I work on 7th Ave and 53rd. So I wouldn't want to go much further west than 9th Ave. I would go to 10th if it was rediculously delicious though
Bocca.
Tons of Morgan Stanley workers go there. The regular ones, not the 8-figure salary dudes doing their power lunches.
