They see where they are in Brooklyn as the center of the universe, and to travel to the UES is so far out of their realm (and so far north) that they call it Rhode Island.

It's funny because it's almost exactly the reverse of how Manhattan-centric people used to, or maybe still do, feel about going to Brooklyn.

Oh I thought it was a specific dig at UES residents. Either way though, I agree that it's obnoxious. The irony is that many of the Bed Stuy locals likely view him and his friends as invaders.

And agreed! I think it's mostly older people who are still like that about Manhattan.

"Bed Stuy as the center of the universe" is clear proof that every galaxy and indeed the universe itself has a massive black hole at its center.

I could see him snickering at you as a UES resident...

I don't see a problem with it, a lot of people I meet tell me they live in the upper west side or upper east side, then I find out they live in Harlem.

BedStuy, do or die. I find myself stuck in my own world a lot, but even I see the benefit of leaving my small little area of Manhattan, like to get toner for my printer or to go to work lel. BedStuy is definitely one area I would not want to be my center of the universe!
