If you are working oin the west Side of Midtown, take the Riverside Drive place. The commute will probably be a lot simpler. You may even be able to have a one-shot subway ride (no changing trains) to work.
From the east side you'd defintely have to switch trains to get west, either at 42nd St (Grand Central), 59th St for the Bdwy/7th Ave line, or 51st Street to get the 6th Ave lines. People do it all the time, but if you dont have to, why put up with it?
I mean I finish work at 9-10 pm. I am not sure about i-house zone because I think probably pretty dangerous in that period
I have second plan that I should to stay in Midtown and walk from working place to some apartment.
I not sure around 9-10 pm weekday. What is the difference in safety aspect between subway and street in midtown ?

Not understanding this. If there is a place to stay near the school then choose that. If not choose the place on the UWS as its the easiest commute.
