I was just on their website and i swear i thought there there is a Bed and Bath in Co-op City but it didn't show up on their website under store locator. does anybody know?
The sad thing is that co op city is built on a marsh. According to city planners the buildings are sinking as we speak. Might though last for the next 40 before the 25 story buildings are imbedded beneath the ocean.
well they are still tall enough to be visible from as far away as Darien, Conn. there is a shot of a mansion on the water in Rowayton, Conn and you can actually see the Manhattan skyline and a few bldgs from Co-op City in the distance. awesome shot
Co-op City had the ground sinking problem back in the 70's i recall. maybe because it was built on marshland...
its more than just a neighborhood to me its an "institution" for me to buy clothes (Men's Wearhouse, JCP), buy books (Barnes & Noble), shop (K Mart) thats easy to get in to but frustrating to get out of!!!
if i have reason to be over on that side (which these days is a helluva lot) i just can't seem to stay away from Bay Plaza
yeah it had white flight but when it first opened in 1970 the white flight came from the Concourse and other areas into Co-op City. as a kid in the 70's passing it to go to the beach or airport it always "excited" me to see it. when i first was there in 1990 when i first started working in the area it wasn't very exciting at all but it' s still a good place to shop (as long as you go early in the day)
but except for the Li sound, the surrounding area is generally ugly

i was in the area this AM, had to pick up a package at FEDEX in Mt Vernon right over the line from the Bronx with the towers looming over the area in the background. it certainly isn't as 'exciting' to look at as it did when i was a kid. i think it looks better viewed from the Li Sound in Darien Connecticut than it does up close...!!!

LOL! Well I can't imagine it looking too great if the buildings are sinking as one poster mentioned.
