By the way, Stop and Frisk is legal IF there is reasonable suspicion that someone is ABOUT to or has ALREADY committed a crime. The fact that 90% of the people don't even have anything on them means the cops are just randomly stopping and frisking people on the street. Talk about poor policing.

We should not return to the Dinkins police, where NYPD's main concern was to play nice. We saw what that brought us.

Look at what this horrible policewoman did to these women. She felt them all up and then using a glove, fingered their vaginas and anuses and didn't even change the GLOVE.

Two Women Cavity Searched by Texas Police After Being Pulled Over for Littering, Near Dallas | Cop Block

This is what letting people Stop and Frisk people without limit reads to. Abuse and even molestation. Stop and Frisk needs to be severely curtailed, and thank god this federal judge has severely curtailed it (at least the NYPD version of it).

It is amazing that something SO OBVIOUSLY EVIL would need to be tossed out by a court. Are politicians and police forces so enmired in a dash to Fascism that they become blind to decency and common sense and will always try the dictatorial methods first.

Jesus, what will it take for people to realize that we have become a Police State.

NYPD definitely was not playing nice around that era. I think the whole CPR approach (which was a good idea btw and has been used to better effects elsewhere) came out of the Dinkins era but NYPD had a very antagonistic attitude towards Dinkins and it played itself out in the streets.

I think if we have de Blasio for mayor the stop and frisk will be gone, as will Ray Kelley, so he has got my vote.

ray kelly has got to go.

Ray Kelley = Stop and Frisk.

Some here keep mentioning stop and frisk scares thugs from carrying guns. Has there been any studies, proof? Stop and frisk incidents dropped in the last year (halved?) Shootings actually went down. From what I've read, much of the time instead, the police just find minorities carrying weed.

SeventhFloor's example of being stopped and frisked doesn't sound random — it was in a stop that had known drug dealers and in the middle of the night, so it does sound reasonable for the police to be suspicious nor racially profiled. A random sweep of an entire high-crime neighborhood, no.

Dinkins appointed Ray Kelly. He probably wouldn't be here today with him.
