Nah he's a democrat lol

Republicans give problems with hiring. Democrats just make us pay more into their welfare programs once we're hired lol

FWIW and take this with a grain of salt as most "talk" should, but i've heard SI is going to get flooded with this final transfer. So get those transfers in if you have any dreams of getting closer to home.

We've(all 3 garages) already got dozens of junior guys the last 3 classes and the garages are still short.

Yeah but by flooded they mean like 8 to 10 each lol. The 2008 classes are going to pounce after they got beat by the 2010 last time.

But that's good cause 2010 and 11 will be in great shape in bk and Manhattan this time next year lol

Retro pay is the citys "penalty" for not negotiating fairly. If you fold on retro, and there was no penalty to the city for leaving the unions w/o a contract for YEARS, why would they ever come to the table again at the end of any contract? They will just let you work a few years without one & then sit down when they feel like it. Fold on retro & you will never have a timely contract again, ever. There are ways to work out retro , it could be given yearly over the life of the contract, a certain amount a year, but never ever give up retro in favor of a higher raise. You will lose out. Thats a very dangerous precedent to set.
retro isn't a form of punishment to the city why would you say this.

it's just your would-be raise coming in at one shot for the days you were working under the old contract.

the problem here is that the members aren't given a choice in the matter to vote on if we want a raise only, raise plus medical contribution, or retro etc.

union leadership is chilling up top with $200k+ a year, they see no urgency in getting $1k more a month TODAY vs getting a $20k check somewhere in the future.

most likely yeah, 831 backed him so it's very likely.

Cuomo-Tier6
Obama-ACA
Quinn-de Blasio

^this is was 831's political support aided in bringing about.

battin .1000 in misses (0-3)

edit-

it's actually 0-4, they backed Bloomberg for his 3rd term and that brought with it everything leading up to today, no new contract.

So with no new contract they can possible have no classes in 2014 or do they have to have atleast 1 class a year?

Contracts have nothing to do with classes

There is never ever ever ever never never ever ever a guarantee that a class will happen. It's a job, you hire when you need people. When you don't, you don't. There were no classes in 09 and only one in 10. There doesn't HAVE to be hiring. Not only does DSNY and the union need to believe they need to hire, the city needs to agree. Just imagine it like all other jobs...is it guaranteed your local CVS will hire? No, only if they need to.

There's lots of numbers and such that go into it that I won't bog you down in. I know your situation and I would give you this advice...if you wish to be stressed...I would understand you worrying about your husband's medical. But I wouldn't waste the time on new mayors and hiring procedures. At least not in his first year of first term.

That's more for those on the job looking at the contract situation to cry about. Lol
