battin .1000 in misses (0-3)

edit-

it's actually 0-4, they backed Bloomberg for his 3rd term and that brought with it everything leading up to today, no new contract.
831 just backs whoever they expect to win lol. I could run for mayor saying all DSNY is fired if I win. If I'm expected to win....they'll back me

Well that's not a wise way to spend 10's of thousands of dollars on political contributions to politicians.

Think of a bunch of other things that they could be spend that money on.

well there's no relation with a contract and hiring.

thing is there's already surpluses and cleaning in a lot of districts, when things get bad they cut those functions.

with those functions cuts they no longer have a need to replace retired workers, a de facto hiring freeze. this happened in 08 after I came on, hired two classes and then nothing for a year and a half and even that was a last minute emergency hiring 1/2 way through the winter.

those guys got a solid 8 or 9 days of training before they were thrown into the field in the middle of a fumbled blizzard lol.

it's just your would-be raise coming in at one shot for the days you were working under the old contract.

the problem here is that the members aren't given a choice in the matter to vote on if we want a raise only, raise plus medical contribution, or retro etc.

union leadership is chilling up top with $200k+ a year, they see no urgency in getting $1k more a month TODAY vs getting a $20k check somewhere in the future.

well, I didn't really mean a form of punishment, but I couldn't think of a way to clearly explain what I meant. What I meant was if the city never had to lay out retro, if there was no consequence at all in delaying negotiations, why would they ever sit down & negotiate in good faith when the contract expires? They would just sit back & wait till they are good & ready. I just feel if they give up retro there is no reason at all left for the city to sign a contract in a reasonable period of time. I mean, lets say they know they have to give a 3% raise. Why give it right away, why not wait a few years & give it then?

There is never ever ever ever never never ever ever a guarantee that a class will happen. It's a job, you hire when you need people. When you don't, you don't. There were no classes in 09 and only one in 10. There doesn't HAVE to be hiring. Not only does DSNY and the union need to believe they need to hire, the city needs to agree. Just imagine it like all other jobs...is it guaranteed your local CVS will hire? No, only if they need to.

There's lots of numbers and such that go into it that I won't bog you down in. I know your situation and I would give you this advice...if you wish to be stressed...I would understand you worrying about your husband's medical. But I wouldn't waste the time on new mayors and hiring procedures. At least not in his first year of first term.

That's more for those on the job looking at the contract situation to cry about. Lol
I guess having so many classes this year gives me a lot of hope but I guedd you are right being stressed about it is not going to help . Thanks for always answering my questions!

because by law they have to bargain in good faith. that's why, and good faith doesn't involved lapsing a contract on purpose.

I get what you're saying but retro is just a backlog of money, in theory they can agree to a raise with no lapse in contract and boom, there's no "retro".

same amount of dollars.

Again, we are talking about 831 and Nespoli....only they could f*ck this up. You have an admitted socialist in DeBlasio, a bonafide nutcase Marxist who would bend over backwards to give money to unions. It's almost guaranteed team Nespoli will find a way to f*ck this up. I was almost sure it would go in our favor but again it's 831 lol, look for a net loss.

you can't throw recycling and trash in the same truck. Two separate trucks with two different crews go out.

Depending on where you live one regular truck is out picking up your trash while one crew in a split body (the truck has two compartments or sides) is out picking up recycling and putting metal, glass, plastic in one side and paper in the other. In larger areas of manhattan and the bronx, three crews will go out with three regular trucks picking up just trash, just metal and just paper.

BUTTTT while I can't read your mind and I obviously do not actually know why you asked this question, i find most students ask this question for one reason in particular so I'll just add that which function you take goes by seniority. I.E. you cannot just say "i just want to pick up clean bags of metal for 22 years instead of messy garbage." Though, some places the recycling is just as dirty ........yeah i'm looking at you BK12 lol

I hope that answered your question. If not, let me know and i shall endeavor to rephrase.
