eight hours in between each shift but each shift is for a different day
Those alternate shifts seem hard to work if you have young kids and a working spouse. I wonder how people in those scenarios get by. Must be rough those first few years. These alternate shifts are good to know before hand,

thanks for this information...

It's very difficult, you can't plan anything, this job owns you the first few years, not only do you rotate these shifts, but they don't tell you until 2pm the day before the next days shift, no weekly schedule. I am lucky enough to not have children, but I work with a few new guys with families and they seem worn out almost all the time. Gotta keep your eyes on the prize, it's gets better.

@mikfleye3 you mentioned that it gets better. In what ways does this improve?

2. You get a better schedule

Oh ok. From the previous comments I assumed that what you get is what you get. There's no deviating from it as far as schedule and work times.

It does happen though, every now and then you get sat, sun, Monday off, and if there's a holiday in there occasionally 4 days in a row off.

All depends where your day off rotation goes. You'll learn all this if you get on the job. For the most part though, it's two days off during the week, not consecutively.

One of the benefits of signing nights when you come on is that you will get a 3 day weekend every 6 weeks.

The benefits are you will have a pension, medical and dental for life, job security and a great union that will fight for you. Do you want anything else? All you have to do is pass the 18 month probation.
