Since you declare it so strongly as "undisputed," I wonder if you've checked around - to see if they agree with you in Paris, for instance.
And incidentally, immigrants' strong feeling were usually aroused by the sight of the Statue of Liberty, not the skyscrapers. Possibly because they weren't interested in the business aspect of NYC, which is really what you list dwells on.

NYC can hold much more power if it was the capitol of the country which it used to be. all of the countries decision making comes from DC and not from NYC from politics to even economics. hold your horses buddy, NYC as the pinnacle of western civilization? London, Paris, Venice, Constantinople, Rome, Alexandria, Athens all were considered pinnacles of western civilization at their heights. NYC is not their yet, but still a good experiment nonetheless.

Austin, TX has a much higher tech presence in the world than NYC does- as does Seattle/Redmond.
and even claiming to being 2nd tier to San Jose/Silicon Valley is like calling Miami the 2nd most important finance hub in the country- a far far reach away from the top.

What on Earth does "higher tech presence" mean? NYC is creaming everyone sans The Valley in all the categories that matter.

You have it backwards. Economics rule politics. Not the other way around. The nation's real power is derived from New York.
