It is the pinnacle of Western civilization. Imagine the feelings of all those immigrants when they arrived at Ellis Island and looked at those skyscrapers for the first time!

No city since Rome has held this much power and might!

New York! America! The glory of it all!

I'd dispute it.

... and you wrote "Silicon Alley" which is a pretty clear indicator that there's little to no credibility to the post.

Why are you bitter than New York City is now the world's second most important technology hub? Are you from Boston?

In general either NYC or London could be the unofficial capital of the world.

Since you declare it so strongly as "undisputed," I wonder if you've checked around - to see if they agree with you in Paris, for instance.

And incidentally, immigrants' strong feeling were usually aroused by the sight of the Statue of Liberty, not the skyscrapers. Possibly because they weren't interested in the business aspect of NYC, which is really what you list dwells on.

NYC can hold much more power if it was the capitol of the country which it used to be. all of the countries decision making comes from DC and not from NYC from politics to even economics. hold your horses buddy, NYC as the pinnacle of western civilization? London, Paris, Venice, Constantinople, Rome, Alexandria, Athens all were considered pinnacles of western civilization at their heights. NYC is not their yet, but still a good experiment nonetheless.

Absolutely not from Boston. Gross.

Austin, TX has a much higher tech presence in the world than NYC does- as does Seattle/Redmond.

and even claiming to being 2nd tier to San Jose/Silicon Valley is like calling Miami the 2nd most important finance hub in the country- a far far reach away from the top.

What on Earth does "higher tech presence" mean? NYC is creaming everyone sans The Valley in all the categories that matter.

And we are closing in on The Valley.

You have it backwards. Economics rule politics. Not the other way around. The nation's real power is derived from New York.

It's like being cool in high school. You're only really the capital of the world when you don't need people to tell you that you are.
