How can anyone sleep in a place heated to 80F? That cannot be good for a person's health.
Much prefer 60's or even 50's. That is what eiderdowns are for, that and or thing like quilts, blankets, etc...
Also sleep with windows partially open as well.

Unless my thermostat is broken, 75 to 80 is my comfort zone. It's 75 right now in my place, and it's actually really comfy. I have to throw a shirt on, but I'll probably be fine for the night since it isn't too cold out right now.

This new law is just plain stupid:
"Between 6 AM and 10 PM, if the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees, the inside temperature must be at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
Between 10 PM and 6 AM, the inside temperature must be at least 62 degrees Fahrenheit at all times. There is no outside temperature requirement."
Over night while persons are presumably in bed under covers there is no reason to crank up heat to keep apartments at 62F. Especially when many older buildings with steam heating lack sensors to keep temps in that range. So LLs will crank up heat over night turning buildings into ovens and people will either run their ACs (not good), or open windows to escape being baked to death.
This will all end in tears I promise you when the bills start coming in for all this "extra" heat. Again want to see what Bill de Boob and his handpicked instruments on the RGB say when lords start saying "give me my money" in answer to the increased heating costs this new rule brings.
That and or tenants are going to be hit with passed along costs as buildings install sensors and other equipment (including perhaps new boilers/furnaces) in aid of protecting themselves against heat complaints.
for any multi family building owners out there , if your building has quite a few apartments it is almost silly not to do some form of energy mgmt . the energy saving is huge .
you take a typical building like where we live with hundreds of apartments , pretty much the bulk of the building is off to work by 9am .
but those water pumps have no choice but to run full speed to provide hot and cold water to the building 24/7 . the drop off in water usage is huge after 9am and stays that way all day .
smart landlords put a variable frequency drive on the pumps to control the speed . by using a pressure transducer in the water lines the pumps speed up and slow down according to need .
but the big savings comes from the fact that with what we call variable torque loads like fans and pumps the energy saving is not proportional .
a 10hp motor at full speed acts like only a 2-1/2 hp motor at 1/2 speed not a 5hp as you would think .
so the savings can be very large and pay back pretty fast .

the company i worked for is in the energy mgmt business . their business exploded as residential buildings all over put these system in .
all apartments get wireless sensors that report back as to space temperatures . then a brain monitors the heating equipment for operational temperatures and conditions and can send its own corrective actions to motors ,boilers furnaces and pumps .
in order to really get things right it does require lots of upgrades . there is a limit to how far you can compensate for a poor system layout .
