What cell carrier are you using, and how is their coverage/reliability?
Years ago I went with Verizon. I had Sprint previously, and had coverage problem. Verizon has been fine. However a lot of time has past, and maybe the others have stepped up their game.
all carriers have excellent coverage in NYC. The issues are when you go outside of metro NYC and where generally Verizon is good everywhere and Sprint/T-Mobile take turns sucking in specific regions
I have two phones, my personal phone is with Sprint and my work phone is on Verizon. I use them both all the time and don't have any signal/coverage issues with either phone in the city or on LI. I get better service with the Verizon phone when I'm out of state in remote areas. However I pay only a fraction of what I did when I was on AT&T. I'm very happy with Sprint's service so far.
Verizon is clearly the best but its expensive. I've been with T-Mobile close to 10 years and they dont even offer my unlimited data plan anymore so I will be staying with them until I'm dead or something changes.

T-Mobile but I am on someone's else plan. Years ago I had a Verizon which seems to have better coverage at that time but I don't know now if there is any difference.
I started with T-Mobile almost a decade ago, and I always thought it was great. I never had coverage issues. I switched to Verizon only because I had a work discount, and I actually preferred T-Mobile, and am now thinking of switching back. I know T-Mobile has much better international rates, which is important to me. T-Mobile has stepped up its game.
Currently have AT&T which works just fine even upstate or cross country, don't notice a difference. My T-Mobile days the service kind of sucked by it was cheaper so I didn't mind. Verizon was the most expensive but I used to get service in basements while other carriers didn't, but that was more than a decade ago so don't know if the other carriers have stepped up their game.
