Maybe you are taking a typical New York attitude for 'hate'? New Yorkers can sit nonresponsive when serving them, question everything you do behind your back and under their breath, then leave you a $10 tip for a $20 meal service.
Just because they aren't big on random chit chat, cant relate to building a tree fort as a child, and have the ability to look down their nose at you even if they are 8 inches shorter than you, it doesn't mean they hate you.
I live on the West Coast and prefer transplants from the Midwest over those from California or back east. They are nicer, not entitled and do not try to change where they moved to to what they left behind.
Most people I know who live in NYC, and were born in the USA but not NYC, are from an hour away at most.
I don't know anyone who moved here from the midwest except people who were 40+ when they moved here like one of my bosses. I do know a few from the southwest and west coast, though.
I only hate people from the South. Midwesterners are sort of ok by me. I think I'm a transplant though so that might have something to do with it. It's been so long I can't remember.

There's something about a southern accent that just offputting. It sounds bossy to me.They are definitely funnier and more real than midwesterns. I find people very repressed in Wisconsin and especially Minnesota. I can see right through their Minnesota niceness.
It's not just raw numbers, duh as stats can show. But I think many people are just generally turned off by the Midwestern ones because they pretend to be all liberal but still look hillbilly and inbred for some reason. I can't really put my finger on it, but it's there so that's fair.
Not all people from the South. Mostly just white people from the South. I don’t like what the South stands for.
