I am considering buying a co-op in Glen Oaks (seems like a great area and is affordable) but was wondering what the commute to Manhattan is like.
I know there is an express bus but is it reliable or would it be a long commute into the city?
Also, if I wanted to take the LIRR [Little Neck] - would I be able to find parking on a daily basis or would that be a struggle?
I was dating someone along that line. Seems to me, the buses run very frequently both the express buses and the local bus that goes to the Union Turnpike station. When I used it (up to 2016 when we stopped dating), I found the downtown bus required a long wait, while the ones going to midtown were much more frequent. All in all, transportation was very frequent, if not a long commute. (And the Express bus took a really long time.)

Well yeah. You're almost at the end of Queens. As if the bus to subway commute was will much faster.

I didn't say either. But the Q46 runs almost constantly during rush hour. From where he was located, it was 10 minutes to the station. On the other hand, I have waited for the downtown express bus, more than 20 minutes at 7:30am, and still got to work after 9am.
It was the same in reverse for the Express. I would wait near Rector street for 20-30 minutes at 5pm and get to his house at 6:45, while taking the train bus, I would have gotten there around 6:15.

Right because the buses and subways are so reliable. Please. I ride the 6 train (the same train you claim is so fast and reliable) and that train has constant issues. Long waits and overcrowding. If you're going to hype up the subway, at least be honest. The Q46 has its own problems. Lots of packed buses.

I have never hyped the 6 train. But it is the MOST reliable form of public transportation that serves my particular commute. And in the end of the day, SPEED is the most important factor to me. When and if the Express buses start getting me somewhere faster, then it's worth of conversation. It's going to add 50% more time to my commute... no, no, no. My time has value to me.
Don't move to LI unless you work there or in Queens.
