I actually write the same way - with no caps - but I do that on my social media. I think it's cool.

Cops will tell you it's a "perk of the job", just like parking anywhere they want with their placards on their personal time, which is all bullsh** in my opinion. Cops should have to follow the same rules as everyone else unless it actually is an emergency or official business. That means stopping at red lights or stop signs, obeying the speed limit, and not parking in front of hydrants.

I'm actually shocked that there hasn't been more cell phone videos circulating around of this bad behavior which I see ALL THE TIME

as for as your response to my post, you obviously get special favors from the same city employees I speak of. Im sure you have a PBA card in your wallet, to fix the little stuff.

touche !
I was typing on my cell phone with autocorrect, so I get a pass. You on the other hand... If you're going to go into a whole freaking diatribe about how terrible the NYPD is, why don't you sign up for the job and come back and report how you followed every law in the book. People are such hypocrites. I know damn well that most of the people b*tching on here would be doing the same crap that they claim is so horrible. I'm not excusing it either because some of them take it to another level, but at the same time let's not act like it's you're such a goody two shoes.

I ain't bashing just the police, but any city /state employee using their emergency vehicles in such a manner.

I'm on my cell too, but not asking for any pass.

It's just sickening, all the taxes I pay, and rules to follow, they are not held to the same standards as regular people.

And the union just keep s backing the B's up. There are copwatcher groups on YouTube, but they are more interested in confrontations over abuse of position or job title.

Hey, I run late, get hungry, hate traffic, but I won't play the cowboy, doing what the f I want.

Is hard for bystanders to know if what they are doing is right or wrong. When in doubt, report it, and let Department of Investigation look into this matter.

1) Just be honest next time and say it's the police you have your beef with.

2) Do you have access to police radios which you use to confirm that the vehicles you observe are not responding to an emergency outside of your immediately observable area? If not, how are you coming to this conclusion?

Years ago I had the awesome (and very rare opportunity) to go back and catch someone who blocked us at a red light because she was thinking the same thing as the OP.

A sector from the adjoining precinct had called for backup as we were cruising down 4th Ave in Brooklyn. We turned on the lights and started going through intersections when after a few blocks this lady decides we were just "abusing our power" so she refuses to move and angles her car so we can't get past her.

We finally manage to get around her (she was cursing at us and giving us the finger of course) and keep heading towards the cop who needed help, pissed off that we couldn't do anything about her.

Well unfortunately for her, we only made it a few blocks before cops start going over the radio saying everything was under control. My partner immediately whips a u-turn and low and behold, we find her one block behind us. She got slammed with 6-7 summonses from what I remember and when my partner went to court, they all stuck. We could have arrested her for Obstructing Governmental Administration, but that would have been a one night ordeal for her. The tickets taught her a lesson that probably took a few years to get over and cost way more money.

Very good point!

My fave:
Firemen need dinner and they go shopping for it, so say 15 steaks and some veg. 15 firemen, the whole firehouse, contingent arrive at Key Food in a million dollar pumper that gets 3 gallons of fuel per mile instead of one man in a Volkswagen.

They did that in Weehawken a few years back and there was a fire across the street from the firehouse. The residents ran to the firehouse and banged on the door but there was nobody home and a few houses burned to the ground while all the firemen were at Shop-Rite.

I used to listen to police scanner, found it boring , but there is an app.

In my most recent encounter, I was headed to the 711, waiting to make a turn at the light. Two corrections vans come blazing through with the lights on. I can see them ahead of my on the boulevard, lights off as they approach the 711. When I arrive, they were already fixing their coffees. Non emergency.

Another occassion, same location, but I'm waiting for my Chinese takeout. I see a car commingled from 5 blocks away, lights on until the car arrives. 2 cops come to make a lunch order. Non emergency.

Port athourity are not shy to do it either. But they do stand out doing it. Airport police, really?
